Atmosphere at a Police Station

Atmosphere at a Police Station

By David Smith August 12, 2008

Police Station atmosphere cold as stone

The bricks, the mortar, the glass and microphone

Everything’s at a distance

An echo through the place

To an outsider

Coolness, a distance, we face

Police have a posture

A uniform of respect

Warmth of conversing, familiarization they forget

It’s all part of the posture

Coolness around

That gets results to keep the crime rate down

This poem was read at Balzac’s Cafe on November 12th, 2009. There was a good turn out that evening on Queen Street in Niagara Falls.
