When the Canadian Flag was Born

When the Canadian Flag was Born

By David Smith September 25, 2009

The flag up the pole; a flashback I can see;

Nineteen Sixty-five jogged a childhood memory.

A new flag, blowing in the breeze;

The Pearson Dishrag;

Loyal subjects did sneeze.

The controversy over flag when I was a boy;

Now it represents Canada; with Great Pride and Joy.

It always was the Maple Leaf as far as Canadians are concerned.

The Union Jack, The three crosses; in school we had to learn.

The dynamics of history; how attitudes evolve.

Conflicts in life; every generation has to solve.

A flag up the pole

A controversy I could see

To look ahead to the future;

How the past affects me.
