The Veterans Remember

They stand at attention, the Veterans of old;

Think of their comrades the blood; it ran cold

They think of the sacrifice, how war played a part;

Death and the dying, and aching of heart

They stand at attention; their numbers diminish;

Every year they are older, as lives come to a finish

Yet, their memory, like teenagers, they live;

Sacrificed their time, their lives that they give

Crying like yesterday, the loss of their chums

The killing and slaughter, the pain it still comes

seeing a veteran so old and so frail

think of their youth, their lives tell a tale

they stand at attention; their minds in the past

the pain and the suffering; those tears still last.
