Basic Training: Memories Still Linger

Basic Training: Memories Still Linger

By David Smith August 25, 2009

Basic Training hits home hard;

My platoon Sergeant; vividness so large;

Came in for his coffee;

He reminds me of my past.

Like jumping to attention;

Those days still last.

A tall thin man; Military cut to boot.

Pictured the uniform; Dress Greens was the suit.

RCR cap badge and pace stick by his side.

Those memories were vivid

Where nothing seems to hide.

Eleven weeks of training for the rest of my life.

To come to attention

In my mind every night;

To hold on to memory; don’t let it go.

Building blocks of life; for a future to grow.
