The Train

The Train

By David Smith February 12, 2011

See the train as it clicks down the track

It is the shadow that is holding back.

The shadow is constant, the image on each car;

The trees, the blur, as the distance is far;

The engine out of sight;

But the shadow is clear;

As each car is pulled motion does appear;

Observing the shadow as it adjusts to the train;

Sounds of the whistle, time and time again;

That is the romance, the trains of old

Where engineers adjust to the wind and the cold.

See the train as it clicks down the track

Shadows of life can hold us back.
