First Steps

First Steps

By David Smith January 18, 2014

She takes her first steps, from the bed as she springs

At a snail’s pace, in slow motion, as pain starts to ring.

Her leg is so tender, as bandages conceal

The cutting and tearing for a new knee, to heal

Effort is painful, but essential for growth

The zest for life, as it seems remote

The determination to develop, the drive

It is the optimism, for wellness to thrive

Observing my wife, with pain in each step

It is our walk and support, and a fulfilment, we get

Bonding together, and encouragement be

The health of a family, what everyone can see

Thanks be to support, and work as a team

The down pouring beauty where love is supreme
