What a Back Stitch

What a Back Stitch

(Inspired by visit to Fabricland Welland)

By David Smith December 9, 2016

At Fabricland, four spools of thread

Where sewing by hand, is tedious, we dread

Back stitching and front stitching, any way to seam

When it’s inside out, it is obvious. The stitch from the sewing machine

That is the purpose, threads will not come undone

The way it is woven, like a spider’s web is spun

The thrill of design, the workmanship of the spools

It’s the precision, the mechanical parts, I find so cool

The needle on an angle like a wolf’s set of teeth

To bite into the fabric, and tie it, so neat

That’s what’s observed, the design of the seam

It is unique, on the four-spooled sewing machine

What excitement! How modern day sewing machines advance

My great-grandmother’s old Singer she would pedal and prance

Thanks be to a salesperson to take the time to explain

The advancement in sewing is to our gain
